Daily Stoic Thoughts Applied To Youth Minds
- *Here is another daily thought shared with my basketball team. Figured I would share here to spread the wealth of thinking.**
Yesterday I shared the idea of 3 pieces of mindset that apply to all aspects of life. Today we must put them to use and apply our ideas. Today we have players sick and players not able to compete. These are things that at this point in time we have no control over. We cannot control when a virus strikes our health system. We cannot control the choices of others. However, we can control how we respond to these situations by focusing on ourselves, our minds, and our choices.
Today we need players to step up to the challenge. On the A team we have key players sick and not able to play. In our B games we have players not able to compete due to the choices they have made in the past. Who will step up? Who will rise to fill these shoes to ensure that the team as a whole has continued success?
As Epictetus states in Discourses
“A podium and a prison is each a place, one high and one low, but in either place your freedom of choice can be maintained if you wish.”
Remember, in all situations, whether we face adversity or advantages, there is only one thing to do. This one thing is quite simple in premise — focus on what is in our control vs. what is not in our control.
Our choices matter. How will we make the most of them? This is the essence of life. These are the questions life constantly throws in our face. How will you answer?
