Negative self talk will destroy you and your ambitions. Something that literally drives me crazy is when people I care about speak so negatively to themselves about themselves.
As a parent over dinner with my family after a basketball game, I got heated as my son expressed over dinner how he is not able to shoot, he can’t score, he is not strong enough to rebound in the paint, etc. It was a barrage of negative self image, negative self talk, and lack of confidence.
I know as parents we are all bias with our children. I have watched this young man destroy people on the football field. I have watched him do things in his life of high level and character. He has an innate ability to do things that make him unaware of his capabilities.
He is also lacking self awareness of what he can achieve if he could wipe the fog from the mirror in which he views himself. I understand that this is muddy waters of adolescence at its finest.
I experience the same things working with educators in my workshops who are so terrified of acting on their ideas. Educators who put down their work. Educators who think their ideas are bad, stupid, and dumb. It is a…
