Part 62: Teaching is a lifestyle, not just a job.

What many people don’t realize is that teaching is a lifestyle and not just a job. It is a profession that never leaves your mind, heart, and soul no matter how you try to escape. (insert footnote 1)

You come home from a long grueling day and the first thing you do is decompress the entire day to a loved one because if you don’t get your thoughts out of your head it might just explode. You vent about your teammates, start most phrases with

“You will not believe what happened today, ……”

or

“If I could just work with students all day teaching would be amazing”

or

“If I could prep on my prep for once I might not have to be in my classroom until evening to only drive home and plan for the next day.”

or

“Is it a full moon again?”

You think about your students about as much as your own children. You lay in bed at night and question your sanity. You question your value. You question your skills. Will this idea work? Is this what is best for kids? Should I do this? Will this make me stand out? Will my colleagues go against me if I do something against the grain?

These types of questions and thoughts cause us not to move into action. We…
